About The Position

The Medical-Surgical Nursing Assistant (certified or non-certified), also referred to as a Med-Surg Tele Nursing Assistant, provides basic patient care and monitoring for adults recovering from surgery or illness while on heart monitors. The role supports mobility, monitors vital signs, observes patients for changes, and helps maintain a safe, supportive environment that promotes recovery. Entry-level Nursing Assistants and Certified Nursing Assistants with no prior experience are encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time night-shift position in the Medical Surgical Acute Unit 5 at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama. Shifts are 12 hours, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. A $1,500 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates; eligibility and payout terms apply and are discussed during the interview process.

Requirements

• Obtain a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire and maintain it.
• Possess knowledge of medical terminology.
• Obtain a current Behavioral Violence Prevention (BVP) certificate or obtain one within 6 months of hire, and maintain it.

Nice To Haves

• Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate preferred.
• Minimum six months of previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician's office preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
• Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation.
• Help patients get in and out of bed, walk, and use assistive devices.
• Ensure telemetry monitor leads are properly connected and functioning; recognize monitor alarms and promptly alert registered nurses.
• Observe patients for physical changes, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, or altered mental status, and quickly notify nursing staff.
