Nursing Assistant FT Days
About The Position
Kindred Hospital San Antonio Central is an LTAC hospital located inside Baptist Medical Center, specializing in care for patients recovering from intensive care and medically complex conditions. The Nursing Assistant supports professional nursing staff in providing patient care, assists patients with activities of daily living and personal care, provides emotional support, and performs clinical skills under the direction of professional nursing personnel. The role is full-time, day shift, and requires no travel. The position also performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function under stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships within the department and with other departments.
- Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Must have good and regular attendance.
- Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification, such as AHA or Red Cross, required within the facility-specified time frame.
- Approximately six months of experience in an acute or long-term care facility is preferred.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent, including education equivalent to completion of secondary school, or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role (preferred).
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of practice upon hire (preferred).
- At least six months of experience in an acute or long-term care facility (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Consult with the supervisor and keep them informed about unit activities, needs, and patient-care problems.
- Provide general nursing care, including positioning, lifting, turning, ambulation, use of special equipment, assistance with bedpans, urinals, or commodes, preoperative and postoperative care, and application of binders or anti-embolism stockings.
- Provide personal care such as bed baths, oral, hair, and back care; change bed linens; clean over-bed tables and bedside stands; and maintain the patient room.
- Accurately measure and record temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake and output, and document in a timely manner.
- Prepare patient rooms and beds for admissions and transfers, and ensure required equipment is available.
- Maintain a clean, comfortable, and attractive patient environment, including appropriate ventilation and lighting.
- Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures, and handle patient belongings and personal property appropriately.
- Answer patient call lights, telephone calls, and paging system alerts, and respond as appropriate.
- Under the direction of an RN, perform routine treatment procedures such as enemas and application of heat or cold appliances.
- Release, remove, and reapply patient restraints under the direction of an RN.
- Ensure patients are properly positioned and aligned, and assist an RN and/or LVN/LPN with complicated treatment procedures.
- Serve and remove meal trays promptly and assist with feeding or preparing food items for patients.
- Transport patients to and from departments as requested.
- Provide post-mortem care and assist with transporting bodies to the morgue or designated area.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
