The Nursing Assistant - Observation Unit assists the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients. This includes tasks such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, assisting with activity orders and ambulation, and performing special transfers. The role involves measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and daily weights, as well as accurately documenting patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The Nursing Assistant will perform purposeful rounding, communicate observations to the RN, and participate in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes. Responsibilities also include collecting specimens, performing point-of-care testing, running errands, maintaining nursing area stock, cleaning equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties. Additionally, the role involves tasks related to maintaining skin integrity, and may include removing IVs, providing post mortem care, and performing bladder scans under RN direction. The Nursing Assistant must practice within infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and aseptic procedures, and demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care for all patients served.
