About The Position

This role is for a Nursing Assistant, with opportunities for trainees and those who will be trained. The position involves assisting patients with daily activities, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort and safety. Successful completion of training programs leads to a transfer into the Nursing Assistant role. The role requires excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing service excellence.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Obtain BLS Certification upon completion of the Apprenticeship Program (for Trainee role).
  • Obtain BLS Certification upon completion of the Will-Train program (for Will-Train role).
  • Successful passage of the Falmouth Hospital written competency exam for Nursing Assistant (for Will-Train role).
  • Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant Program (for Nursing Assistant role).
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program (for Nursing Assistant role).
  • Successful completion of an EMT Program (for Nursing Assistant role).
  • Successful completion of an LPN Program (for Nursing Assistant role).
  • Equivalent clinical Military experience (for Nursing Assistant role).
  • Completed at least one year of an accredited Nursing School Program (for Nursing Assistant role).
  • Successful completion of the Falmouth Hospital Nursing Assistant Will-Train or Trainee program (for Nursing Assistant role).
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (for Nursing Assistant role).
  • Successful passage of CPI training within 6 months from hire and must maintain recertification annually.
  • Must be courteous to patients, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Must wear facility-provided identification badge.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients via wheelchairs and stretchers.
  • Takes vital signs, oxygen saturation, weights, and performs non-invasive specimen collection.
  • Assists with turning and positioning patients, range of motion, ambulation, and toiletry.
  • Assists with all ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) and provides complete care as needed.
  • Sets up, assists, and educates patients with commodes, bedpans, urinals, sitz baths, walkers, wheelchairs, slings, venodyne boots, crutches, and specific precautions (with input from PT as needed).
  • Appropriately empties and/or records all drainage devices.
  • Performs postmortem care.
  • Identifies and locates needed accessories to facilitate transport.
  • Answers call lights.
  • Makes beds, both empty and occupied.
  • Sets up all equipment routinely used on their home base units.
  • Prepares room for admission.
  • Assists with patient discharges.
  • Removes linens.
  • Answers telephone.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
  • Facilitates communication to RNs to provide the best care possible for patients.
  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested by his/her immediate supervisor.
