About The Position

The Nursing Assistant works in the 21-bed 2A medical/surgical ICU, which serves high-acuity medical ICU patients. The unit population includes patients receiving cardiac interventions and care for SARS, cardiogenic shock, and complex ICU needs, as well as patients requiring Rotoprone and postpartum critical care. Most patients have a medical or cardiac diagnosis. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse or another licensed care team member, the Nursing Assistant provides direct patient care and related support by performing selected nursing procedures and routine duties that assist medical and nursing personnel in examining, treating, and caring for patients. This is a part-time, night-shift position.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Current Kentucky Nurse Aide Certification, or successful completion of the first year of a nursing program with validation of clinical rotation.
Basic Life Support certification; applicants who do not already have it have 30 days from their hire date to provide proof of completion.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care, including hygiene, mobility, toileting, feeding, and positioning.
Obtain and document vital signs, intake and output, weights, specimens, and other patient data.
Perform delegated clinical procedures, such as blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, and venipuncture.
Assist with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and procedures.
Perform clerical and unit coordination duties, including maintaining patient charts and physician orders.
Maintain supplies and equipment and help ensure a safe patient care environment.
Respond to patient needs and emergency situations while providing compassionate, respectful care.
