The Nursing Assistant assists the RN with the daily care of patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, and ambulation. This role involves measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and daily weights, as well as accurately documenting patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The Nursing Assistant performs purposeful rounding, communicates observations to the RN, and participates in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes. They ensure patient call lights are within reach and answered promptly, collect specimens, and perform point-of-care testing. Additionally, the role involves completing errands, maintaining stock for the nursing area, cleaning equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties that require lifting and pushing/pulling. Tasks related to nutritional needs, maintaining skin integrity, and ensuring special patient supplies are provided are also part of the responsibilities. Under RN direction, may be required to remove IVs, provide post-mortem care, and perform bladder scans. Practices within infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care, understanding growth and development principles and assessing patient status based on age-specific needs.
