The Nursing Assistant assists the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation. This role involves measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and patient data, as well as accurately documenting in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The Nursing Assistant performs purposeful rounding, communicates patient needs to the RN, and participates in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes under supervision. They ensure patient call lights are accessible and answered promptly, collect specimens, and maintain nursing area stock and cleanliness. The position requires performing patient positioning and transporting duties, assisting with nutritional needs, and maintaining skin integrity. Depending on unit requirements and RN direction, tasks may include removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and performing bladder scans. The role emphasizes practicing infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and knowledge of aseptic procedures. The Nursing Assistant must demonstrate knowledge of age-appropriate care and principles of growth and development.
