The Nursing Assistant (NA) in the Emergency Room provides quality patient care within the scope defined by the Nurse Practice Act and Trinity Competency Program. This role contributes to the design and implementation of improved processes to achieve quality and excellent patient care and service. The NA assists RN staff in triage, admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, and is responsible for performing electrocardiograms, drawing blood specimens, preparing the unit and patient treatment areas, and distributing nutrition service trays. They also observe and report patient needs and conditions to the RN, take and record vital signs, and respond to patient call lights immediately. The position requires adherence to nursing policies and procedures, and response to emergency plans. The NA also plays a role in customer satisfaction by maintaining positive relationships, serving as a patient advocate, and resolving concerns. The role fosters a cooperative team environment, effective communication with healthcare members, and participation in implementing planned changes.
