About The Position

Fairview is seeking a passionate and hardworking Nursing Assistant to join their Orthopedic and Spine unit at Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN. This unit is a 26-bed facility that cares for adult orthopedics, spine, total joint replacements, general surgery, post-surgical recovery, and medical patients. This is a .6 FTE position, working 48 hours per 2-week pay period, with 8-hour shifts on the evening rotation (3pm-11:30pm) and every other weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun). The Nursing Assistant assists the professional nurse in patient care, including personal grooming, feeding, skin care, specimen collection, ambulation, linen changes, and promptly answering call lights. They also assist in monitoring patient conditions, taking vital signs, reporting findings to the RN, and assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges. Responsibilities include orienting patients and families, accounting for belongings, transporting patients and equipment, ensuring patients arrive at appointments on time, using transfer belts for assistance, cleaning and maintaining rooms and equipment, and stocking supplies. Accurate documentation of tasks performed is required.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program
  • OR Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician
  • OR Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
  • OR Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include: Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, Feeding, Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams, Oral hygiene, Specimen collection/testing, Position/ambulating, Changing linens, Promptly answers call lights.
  • Assists the nurse in monitoring patient condition.
  • Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation.
  • Places patient on/off monitors or equipment.
  • Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.
  • Orients patient and their family to the environment.
  • Assures the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.
  • Transports patients, equipment, specimen and supplies.
  • Assures patients get to appointments on time.
  • Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation.
  • Cleans sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment.
  • Orders and stocks supplies.
  • Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate form.
  • Performs other tasks as needed.
