About The Position

The Physician, Orthopedic Surgery examines, diagnoses and treats hospitalized and outpatient patients. The position manages patients through the continuum of hospital care by collaborating with other medical professionals including Clinical Assistants, Medical Assistants, Clerical, and Administrative staff. The position orders treatments, tests, medication and consults with other specialty physicians and primary care physician where appropriate. The position performs surgical procedures to prevent or surgically correct injury, treat disease, or abnormalities by using surgical techniques to increase patient functioning.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Four (4) to seven (7) years of internship and residency training, pertaining to surgical specialties.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Current medical license in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties, or board eligible.
  • DEA License
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73
  • FBI Clearance
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) to Four (4) years’ experience in orthopedic surgery.
  • Experience in Healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Refer patients to medical specialists, social services or other professionals as appropriate.
  • Perform surgical procedures to prevent or surgically correct injury, treat disease, or abnormalities by using surgical techniques to increase patient functioning.
  • Direct, coordinate, or supervise the patient care activities of nursing or support services.
  • Write patient discharge summaries.
  • Conduct discharge planning and discharge patients.
  • Communicate with patients' primary care physicians upon hospital discharge to maintain continuity and quality of care.
  • Prescribe medications or treatment regimens as appropriate.
  • Order or interpret the results of tests such as laboratory tests and radiography (x-rays) and advanced imaging.
  • Perform standard office duties of joint injections, joint aspirations, splinting, and casting.
  • Attend inpatient consultations in areas of specialty.
  • Diagnose, treat, or provide continuous care to patients.
  • Admit patients for hospital stays and surgical procedures.
  • Participation in Excela Health Medical Group meetings, Leadership meetings and Physician committees upon request.
  • Works in a modern environment including audio-dictation, EMR, and digital radiology.
  • Other duties as assigned.
