About The Position

The Nursing Assistant provides direct patient care and supports patients’ needs in a manner that promotes safety and comfort. The role works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director, and may receive guidance from an LPN. Duties vary by patient care unit or department and contribute to Essentia Health’s mission and goals.

The Nursing Assistant works within the scope of the role to meet Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory and accrediting requirements. The position is based in the Pediatrics/NICU department at the 32nd Avenue Building.

Requirements

• If not already a Certified Nursing Assistant, register as a Nurse Assistant through the North Dakota Department of Health within three months of employment.
• Obtain BLS certification within three months after hire; the certification requirements also specify current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or ability to become certified within one month from the date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal hygiene care.
• Assist with patients’ nutritional needs.
• Provide comfort care and other assistance.
• Transfer patients appropriately and safely.
• Take vital signs and complete recordkeeping.
• Recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition to the RN.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment for patients to promote healing.
• Work within the role’s scope to meet Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory and accrediting requirements.
