Nursing Assistant - Per Diem (Summer Extern)
About The Position
SUMMER 2026 NURSE EXTERN PROGRAM - St. Joseph Hospital. We are excited to be offering our Summer 2026 Nurse Externship Program. Our program will give nursing students the opportunity to work hands-on in the hospital with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. You will work side by side with registered nurses who will serve as mentors. They will guide you in developing your clinical & critical thinking skills as you build your confidence as a nursing professional. Our Nursing Education team will provide you with support and facilitate a robust learning experience. You will join our St. Joseph Hospital Nursing team in the delivery of compassionate patient care.
Requirements
- Must be available to start 6/1/26 and able to complete a 1 week orientation (Monday to Friday 8am-4pm).
- Must be a 3rd or 4th year nursing student in a BSN program with the completion of Nursing Fundamentals.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association.
- Upload a cover letter that is 400 words or less that describes why you went into nursing, what you see yourself doing post-education, and why you are interested in this program.
Responsibilities
- Train and work on a full-time or per diem basis throughout the summer as Nursing Assistants.
- Promote a positive patient experience by providing appropriate patient care to their assigned patients.
- Work closely with the interdisciplinary team – ensuring they keep them informed of any patient needs they cannot perform or any changes in status they observe.
- Document in the EMR system.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
