About The Position

The Nursing Assistant works under the direction of an RN or LPN to support adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The role includes assisting with education for patients who are ready to learn, providing dietary and mobility assistance, monitoring and recording patient information, and reporting changes in patient condition or behavior. The employee must adjust interventions appropriately to the patient’s age and developmental needs.

Requirements

• Education normally acquired through completion of high school, including the ability to read detailed nursing procedures, write legibly, use good English grammar, spell accurately, and communicate effectively with a variety of people.
• Completion of a certified nursing assistant program or previous experience.
• Knowledge of the growth and developmental needs of patients from middle adolescence through geriatrics.

Nice To Haves

• Three to twelve months of experience as a nursing assistant is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reinforce educational needs for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients who demonstrate readiness to learn, under the direction of an RN or LPN.
• Assist with dietary trays and feed patients when indicated.
• Turn and reposition patients and assist with ambulation as ordered, using proper body mechanics.
• Maintain accurate records of daily patient activities and record information as necessary.
• Perform post-mortem care according to nursing procedures.
• Take and accurately record vital signs.
• Assess and adjust interventions based on the patient’s age.
• Assist with dietary needs and monitor patient intake when necessary through intake and output (I&O) or fluid titration.
• Report and/or record observed changes in a patient’s condition or behavior.
