About The Position

The 5 East unit is a 39-bed facility specializing in orthopedic and spine care, including trauma and joint replacements. The unit maintains a favorable nurse-to-patient ratio, ensuring efficient and personalized care. Our team is efficient and experienced, fostering teamwork and patient education to enhance patient health outcomes. This position is .5 FTE, requiring 40 hours per two-week pay period, with 8-hour day/evening shifts and every other weekend rotation.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age OR 17 years of age with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program OR completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program OR completion of the Allina Health Nursing Assistant Academy Program OR previous direct patient care experience.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association OR Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross OR Allina in-house BLS training within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs personal care/interventions as assigned, completing them according to identified critical elements of each procedure.
  • Answers patient call lights promptly.
  • Distributes and sets up water, snacks, and patient trays, and assists patients.
  • Assists patients with grooming and hygiene needs, maintaining skin integrity, personal comfort, and population-specific needs.
  • Provides assistance with ambulation, transfer, positioning, and range of motion (ROM) according to activity orders and patient needs.
  • Implements activities of fall prevention plan as specified in the plan of care.
  • Collects and saves specimens.
  • Provides assistance to the RN for admission, transfer, discharge, and post-mortem care.
  • May transport medications (excluding controlled substances) within the site.
  • Observes, collects, and documents health status data as assigned, including measurements such as temperatures, radial pulses, blood pressures, respirations, weights, and intake and output.
  • Reports observations/health status data that are not within normal limits or are significantly changed to the RN immediately.
  • Documents according to documentation guidelines.
  • Contributes to a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Protects patient, self, and others from injury during transfers, lifts, and transports by using proper equipment and body mechanics.
  • Reports environmental risks or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Uses equipment following policies, procedures, and manufacturer directions or standards.
  • May handle hazardous waste, including identification, segregation, disposal, ensuring container integrity, and knowing emergency response procedures for spills, fires, and evacuation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
