About The Position
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to patients during scheduled work periods, providing patient-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The position is in the Med Surge & Ortho department and requires three 12-hour shifts per week, with shift times of 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m. The role includes an every-third-weekend and holiday commitment.
Requirements
- Must be able to acquire a basic knowledge of patient care principles, medical terminology, and equipment within the assigned service area.
- Certification and registration with the Minnesota Board of Nursing Assistant Registry are required.
- Certification is required if designated by law, such as for Home Care.
Responsibilities
- Assist with basic health care needs and daily living activities, including bathing, grooming, toileting, eating, meal preparation, and dining needs.
- Support patients’ emotional and spiritual needs.
- Administer delegated tasks and treatments.
- Record vital statistics and other basic health information.
- Collect non-invasive biological specimens from patients as needed.
- Perform clerical work related to scheduling and documenting patient health care.
- Prepare patient treatment areas for use.
- Prepare and clean medical equipment.
- Dispose of biomedical waste in accordance with standards and policy.
- Clean patient living areas or treatment rooms.
