About The Position

Cayuga Health is hiring a full-time Nursing Assistant for the Surgical Stay unit at Cayuga Medical Center. The Nursing Assistant works closely with nurses to provide direct patient care, support activities of daily living, and help prevent complications. The role is onsite in Ithaca, New York, and involves three 12-hour shifts per week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with rotating weekends and holidays. A mandatory orientation consisting of one full week, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., must be completed before starting on the unit. No travel is expected.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent experience.
BLS certification; training will be provided if needed.
Complete one full week of mandatory orientation, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., before starting work on the unit.
Ability to frequently use hands and fingers, including operating a computer keyboard.
Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch to perform tasks.
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
Capacity to operate job-related equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

NYS Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA).
Previous patient care experience.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care, including toileting, ambulating, repositioning, monitoring and recording fluid intake and output, recording patient weight, and obtaining vital signs.
Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ conditions to the RN.
Reinforce patient education, including instruction on incentive spirometer use and fall prevention.
Maintain a clean and organized patient bedside area to ensure a safe workspace.
Intentionally round on each patient every hour.
