The Nursing Assistant assists the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients. This includes tasks such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, assisting with activity orders, and ambulation. The role involves measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and daily weights, as well as accurately documenting patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The Nursing Assistant will perform purposeful rounding, collect specimens, and assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. They are responsible for ensuring patient call lights are within reach and answering them promptly. The position also includes maintaining competencies, completing errands, ordering stock, cleaning equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties. Additional tasks may involve assisting with nutritional needs, maintaining skin integrity, providing special patient supplies, and potentially removing IVs, providing post mortem care, and performing bladder scans under RN direction. The role requires adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures. The Nursing Assistant must demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care and principles of growth and development.
