About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Nursing Assistant for the 4th Floor Ortho Spine unit at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota. This 26-bed adult medical/surgical unit specializes in total joint replacements, spinal surgeries, and orthopedic recovery, while also caring for patients with diverse medical diagnoses. The unit has telemetry capabilities and a team-oriented environment supported by collaborative care teams and strong leadership. The Nursing Assistant supports professional nurses in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, maintaining patient rooms, and stocking supplies. The role works under the direction of a professional nurse and may receive patient care assignments based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager or charge nurse. The position is 60 hours per two weeks, with 12-hour day shifts and work every third weekend.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification is required. OnTrack participants must be able to obtain this certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
Meet at least one of the following: successfully complete Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program; have six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care, or acute care setting; be currently enrolled in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program and have completed one semester of clinical rotation; or hold current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
The Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry certification does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant, Nursing Station Tech, or Nursing Station Attendant position.

Responsibilities

Assist with routine patient care, including grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding, skin care, dressing changes, applying ointments or creams, oral hygiene, specimen collection and testing, positioning, ambulation, and changing linens.
Respond promptly to patient call lights.
Assist nurses in monitoring patient condition.
Measure and record patient weights, intake and output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, and oxygen saturation accurately.
Place patients on and remove them from monitors or other equipment.
Report unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Orient patients and families to the environment.
Account for and document patient belongings upon admission, transfer, and discharge.
Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies, and ensure patients arrive at appointments on time.
Use a transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers or ambulation.
Clean, set up, and maintain rooms and equipment.
Order and stock supplies.
Accurately document completed tasks on the appropriate form.
Perform other tasks as needed.
