The Nursing Assistant Trainee participates in a formal nursing assistant learning program to develop the confidence and competence needed to provide personal care to clients. Working as a non-certified nursing assistant under the supervision of a licensed nurse and in partnership with a preceptor, the trainee provides holistic, client-centered care that promotes independence and client rights in a safe, caring, and efficient manner. The program includes online curriculum and hands-on skills development. Trainees must complete all requirements within the designated timeframe and may perform only services for which they have been trained and found proficient by the instructor. Upon completing the program, trainees are prepared to take state knowledge and skills examinations for CNA or other state certification. A CNA position is available upon certification, and a CNA license is required within four months of employment. The trainee works as a member of the nursing team, follows location-specific standards for infection prevention, PPE, safety, and privacy, and provides age-appropriate care according to client care plans. The role involves assisting clients and families with physical, cognitive, spiritual, emotional, and social needs; supporting activities of daily living; documenting care when appropriate; communicating changes in condition or care concerns to a licensed nurse; and assisting with transfers, mobility, meals, and other assigned non-certified nursing assistant duties.
