Nursing Assistant Trainee - Part Time

Sanford Health•Westbrook, MN

About The Position

The Nursing Assistant Trainee participates in a formal nursing assistant learning program to develop the confidence and competence to provide personal care. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse and in partnership with a preceptor, the trainee provides holistic, client-centered care that promotes independence and client rights in a safe, caring, and efficient manner. Trainees must fulfill all program requirements within the designated timeframe and may perform services only after receiving training and being found proficient by the instructor. The program uses a hybrid format with online coursework and hands-on skills development. Upon completion, participants are prepared to take state knowledge and skills exams for CNA or other state certification. While training, the trainee serves on the nursing team and follows location-specific standards for infection prevention and control, personal protective equipment, safety, and privacy. The role involves following written and verbal instructions, completing detailed work accurately, handling stress, applying critical thinking, and prioritizing responsibilities. Trainees work with clients and families to address physical, cognitive, spiritual, emotional, and social needs, and provide age-appropriate care according to the care plan. The trainee assists the care team and documents client care when appropriate, and reports changes in client condition and care-related concerns to a licensed nurse. Duties include assisting with activities of daily living and basic health care needs, transfers and mobility, meals and snacks, and housekeeping and laundry within the non-certified nursing assistant role. The position is part-time, scheduled for 16 hours weekly, with days or evening shifts available and every other weekend and holiday required. Paid training is provided, and a CNA position is available upon certification. The trainee must pass state CNA exams for further hire as a CNA.
