The Nursing Assistant Trainee participates in a formal nursing assistant training program designed to build the confidence and competence needed to provide personal care. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse and in partnership with a preceptor, the trainee provides holistic, client-centered care that promotes independence and client rights in a safe, caring, and efficient manner. The trainee works within the non-certified nursing assistant role and may perform services only after being trained and found proficient by the instructor. The program combines online curriculum with hands-on skills development. Trainees must complete program requirements within the designated timeframe and, upon completion, will be prepared to take state knowledge and skills examinations for CNA or other applicable state certification. A CNA position is available after certification, and a CNA license is required within four months of employment. As part of the nursing team, the trainee follows location-specific infection prevention and control, personal protective equipment, safety, and privacy standards. The role involves providing age-appropriate care to meet clients’ physical, psychological, restorative, cognitive, spiritual, emotional, and social needs, as defined in care plans. The trainee assists clients and families, supports activities of daily living, helps with mobility and meals, documents care when appropriate, and communicates changes in client condition or care-related concerns to a licensed nurse.
