This position provides direct patient care as directed by the RN, including all activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, and ambulating patients. The role also involves maintaining a safe and clean environment, acquiring and distributing supplies and equipment, delivering patient nourishments, and performing UPMC nursing core responsibilities for nursing assistants. The nursing assistant will provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and report changes in patient status. Responsibilities include applying, monitoring, and removing patient restraints per protocol, communicating effectively with the healthcare team, demonstrating cultural diversity awareness, and supporting safety in the workplace. The role also involves contributing to universal unit activities, documenting in the medical record, completing clerical functions, and responding to emergent situations within the scope of the nursing assistant role. Additional core responsibilities include point of care testing, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC & patient safety indicator prevention, urine specimen collection, and ticket to ride (intra-hospital transportation). Access to medications is limited to distribution to the nurse.
