The Patient Care Assistant (PCA), under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care, considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family wellbeing, incorporating concepts of relationship-based care. Training is provided to prepare colleagues for success. The PCA assists patients in completing ADLs, including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, and feeding and menu selection. They are responsible for recording patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements. The Nursing Resource Pool offers increased flexibility in scheduling while allowing colleagues to float only within the Chelsea hospital. Support is provided through focused orientation and training on equipment, processes, and procedures, making float pool colleagues a reliable resource for units and contributing to more manageable patient ratios. Float Pool colleagues are treated as highly valued team members.
