Casual Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician - UPMC Adult Acute Care (10EW)
About The Position
UPMC Adult Acute Care (10EW) is seeking a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician to join their team. This role involves providing high-quality patient care and making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients. The position requires working rotating shifts, including daytime, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts, with the possibility of 12-hour shifts or a mix of 8- and 12-hour shifts. All newly hired candidates must complete a mandatory training course. Nursing students are highly preferred for casual positions. Nursing Assistants and Patient Care Technicians provide routine patient care and support department services under the direction of nurses and/or physicians. Duties include assisting with ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients), taking vital signs, performing simple dressings, EKGs, bladder scans, and collecting specimens.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant training program.
- Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
- Work permit required if under 18 years of age.
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Act 34 clearance.

- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide routine patient care and support department services in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Assist with ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients).
- Monitor and record vital signs.
- Perform simple dressings, EKGs, and bladder scans.
- Collect all specimens.
- Assist with blood glucose monitoring.
- Work with nurses and/or physicians to ensure the highest degree of quality patient care.
