This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia SC 29203. As the Nursing Assistant Non-Certified, working under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, you will perform therapeutic care and assist patients in meeting their needs of performing activities of daily living (ADL). You will also assist in providing and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED.

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Nursing Care Plan (NCP) and Treatment Plan as it relates to providing nursing care.
  • Participate in quality control monitoring and peer review as assigned.
  • Provide care for patients with mental illnesses, substance abuse, aggressive behavior, or suicidal tendencies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the therapeutic communication skills, take under consideration age specific competencies, and culturally diverse patients.
  • Identify the need for and perform basic care/activities of daily living for patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Standard Precautions and performs Quality Control Environmental checks.
  • Assist in caring for patients with behavioral/physical problems.
  • Provide basic care for patients requiring Special Precautions, Seclusion, 4-Point Restraints, and supportive Protective Restraints; follow policy on meeting patients' special needs for hygiene, nutrition, toileting, fluids and ADLs.
  • Participate in maintaining a clean and therapeutic environment by being productively occupied at all times and meeting the needs of the patients.
