This position provides direct patient care as directed by the RN, including all activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, and ambulating patients. The Nursing Assistant maintains a safe and clean environment, manages supplies and equipment, and delivers patient nourishments. They perform UPMC nursing core responsibilities, including point-of-care testing, vital signs, specimen collection, and Foley care. The role involves providing feedback to the RN on patient status, applying and monitoring restraints as needed, and offering companionship and supervision one-on-one with patients. The Nursing Assistant is expected to communicate effectively, demonstrate accountability, and contribute to unit activities. They must adhere to all policies and procedures, including safety precautions and standard precautions, and respond to emergent situations within their scope.
