The Nursing Assistant II performs patient care to patients under the direction and supervision of the Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse. This role involves assisting patients with hygiene, mobility, hydration, elimination, and nutritional needs. The Nursing Assistant II also provides routine treatments, maintains a safe and clean patient environment, and ensures the safety and security of patients, families, self, and the healthcare team. They are responsible for assuring patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality, following standard precautions, and washing hands between patients. The role includes assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges, taking and recording vital signs, and documenting patient information. Recognizing and communicating patient condition changes and safety concerns to the RN is crucial. The position also involves participating in handoff reports, hourly rounding, and providing exceptional service. Competency in specific tasks and skills, maintaining a clean nursing unit, and processing incoming calls and requests are also key responsibilities. Additionally, the Nursing Assistant II transports items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility and may have limited access to medication storage areas. The role requires punctual attendance, compliance with policies, support for planned changes, and participation in performance improvement activities. Awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory standards is essential, as is the efficient use of time and resources. Attending staff meetings and completing mandatory training are also required. The position requires the knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care based on age-specific needs and the ability to assess and interpret patient status.
