About The Position

Ferry County Public Hospital District (FCPHD) offers a Washington State accredited NAC course. This comprehensive program includes 146 hours of instruction and observation by an approved nurse instructor, broken down into 56 hours of theory, 50 hours of skills lab, and 40 hours of hands-on clinical experience within the hospital setting. The course is scheduled from September 14, 2026, to October 29, 2026, with classes held Monday through Thursday evenings from 5pm to 9pm. Additionally, five 8-hour clinical shifts are required to be completed between October 30, 2026, and November 14, 2026, from 6am to 2:30pm. Upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to take the Washington Nurse Aide Written and Skills exams to obtain their NAC certification and may apply for open NAC positions at FCPHD. While the course itself is free, students are responsible for associated costs for books, a food handler's card, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and state testing/licensing application fees, totaling approximately $380.

Requirements

  • Must pass a background check prior to class.
  • Must pass a drug screen prior to class.
  • Must be able to physically perform the duties of a NAC, including sitting, standing, lifting, moving, and transferring patients.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of direct patient care activities and other nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the age-related, personal needs, and comforts of patients/residents, while under the general supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Assists patients/residents with basic day-to-day care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, and assisting with meals.
  • Takes accurate vital signs.
  • Notifies appropriate licensed staff when a patient complains of pain.
  • Positions patients in bed with proper body alignment.
  • Assists patients with ambulation as necessary.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Identifies and communicates findings to the nurse.
  • Notes the condition of the skin and checks for pressure ulcers.
  • Recognizes, responds, and reports resident emotional, social, cultural, and mental health needs.
  • Works as part of the interdisciplinary team.
