At the Long Island State Veterans Home, Certified Nursing Assistants provide high-quality, compassionate care to residents with integrity and respect. Under the supervision of an RN or LPN, they interact frequently with residents while assisting with activities of daily living. Candidates should communicate and interact effectively, understand resident care, respond to residents’ needs using ethical principles, and adhere to the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values. The role includes attending to residents’ daily living, personal, hygienic, and basic human needs; moving, positioning, lifting, and transporting residents using lifts and other aids as directed by professional staff; and encouraging residents to cooperate and participate in treatment and rehabilitation activities. CNAs may occasionally transport residents and supplies and perform housekeeping and cleaning tasks related to direct care. They must protect residents’ rights, dignity, and confidentiality and participate in quarterly in-service education to maintain certification and meet recertification requirements every two years. The Long Island State Veterans Home is a 350-bed skilled nursing facility with a 40-slot Adult Day Health Care Program on the Stony Brook University campus. It serves honorably discharged U.S. Armed Forces veterans, their spouses, and Gold Star parents. The facility operates 24/7, and shifts and pass days may change to meet operational needs. This is an essential position; employees may be required to remain at or report to work during emergencies.
