About The Position

Provides direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction of an RN or LPN/LVN. Assists residents in activities of daily living, provides for personal care, comfort, and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment for patients and an assigned group of residents. NAC will float to Acute Care or Non Skilled Swing Bed Unit as needed for safe staffing after unit orientation.

Requirements

  • Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; reviews all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  • Actively participates in the department’s quality improvement (QI) activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and the employee handbook.
  • Communicates the mission, vision and values of the organization as well as the focus of the department.
  • Meets dress code standards for the department; appearance is neat and clean.
  • All Ferry County Health employees are required to maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy, state and federal regulations, including but not limited to, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Current Nurse Assistant Certification (NAC) in State of Washington
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support certification required at time of hire and throughout employment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation for admission of patients.
  • Assists in and accompanies patients in the admission, transfer and discharge procedures.
  • Provides morning care, which may include bed bath, shower, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patients, changing bed linen, cleaning over-bed table and bedside stand, straightening room and other general care as necessary throughout the day.
  • Provides evening care which includes hands/face washing as needed, oral hygiene, back rubs, peri-care, freshening linen, cleaning over-bed tables, straightening room and other general care as needed.
  • Notifies appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of pain.
  • Assists the nurse with postmortem care if needed.
  • Assists LPN/LVN in treatment procedures.
  • Provides general nursing care, such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patient/utilizing special equipment, assisting in use of bedpan or commode and ambulation assistance.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Successfully documents patient care performed in the electronic medical record.
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure and intake-output as ordered.
  • Makes rounds with outgoing shift; knows whereabouts of assigned patients.
  • Makes rounds with oncoming shift to ensure the unit is left in clean condition.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures of the facility and the Nursing Department.
  • Participates in socialization activities on the unit.
  • Turns and positions patients as ordered and/or as needed, making sure no rough surfaces are in direct contact with the body. Lifts and turns with proper and safe body mechanics and with available resources.
  • Checks for wounds, reddened areas or skin breakdown and reports to RN or LPN/LVN immediately if found.
  • Ensures patients are dressed properly and assists, as necessary. Ensures that used clothing is properly stored in bedside stand or on hangers in closet. Ensures that assigned patients are kept clean and dry at all times.
  • Treats patients, residents and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by management.
