About The Position

The Opportunity: Saint Peter’s University seeks an innovative, student-focused leader to serve as Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions. The Dean is a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team and Deans Council and serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School. The Dean serves as the intellectual leader of the School, fostering an environment in which teaching, scholarship, and service can flourish. The Dean is responsible for the quality and stewardship of academic programs; for managing the School’s organizational structure and human and fiscal resources; and for championing opportunities for School students, faculty, and staff, both internally and externally. Working in collaboration with other Deans and senior administrators, the Dean of Nursing and Health Professions supports and promotes the mission and values of the University. Requirements

  • A terminal degree in a field that allows for appointment as a member of the faculty of Nursing and Health Professions.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, and academic service.
  • A successful record of academic administrative leadership experience at the departmental level or above.
  • Intellectual curiosity about the disciplines represented in the School and about high-impact experiential and online learning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusive excellence in curriculum design and pedagogy; in scholarship and creative endeavor; in service and community engagement; and in student outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven experience managing personnel.
  • Proven experience with academic program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to shared governance and collaboration across disciplines.
  • Experience in working with and responding to National Accreditation bodies.
  • Demonstrated experience with fiscal planning and budget management/analytics.
  • Disposition to listen, unite, and lead the School’s diverse students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to community engagement, service, leadership development, or related work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and advance a forward-looking vision for the School.
  • Ensure inclusive excellence in teaching across disciplines.
  • Build and retain a pipeline of students for undergraduate and graduate programs in Nursing and Healthcare professions
  • Oversee the academic progress of students within the School.
  • Investigate, adjudicate, and resolve student academic problems and complaints.
  • Recruit, hire, and retain excellent teacher-scholars.
  • Ensure clear and fair assessment of faculty and staff.
  • Support faculty and program development in a manner consistent with the University mission and values.
  • Develop and oversee the School curriculum to meet the needs of students and the University.
  • Regularly review, assess, and improve programs within the School.
  • Oversee compliance with relevant disciplinary accreditation and licensure requirements.
  • Manage human and financial resources to achieve the goals of the School and the University.
  • Build and sustain relationships with Hospitals and Healthcare systems.
  • Advocate on behalf of the School’s students, faculty, and staff internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with other Deans and University administrators to explore and support interdisciplinary partnerships.
  • Represent the School at the University, in the community, and at national and international meetings.
  • Develop and enhance fundraising relationships with individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Recruit and convene at least three times per year an Advisory Council.
  • Advise the VPAA and other senior leadership on University policies and procedures.
  • Any other duty or responsibility assigned by the supervisor.
