About The Position

Stauffers of Kissel Hill is hiring a full-time Nursery Assistant Department Manager for its Rohrerstown Road Home & Garden Store. The role pays $18.00 an hour and requires flexible availability for day, evening, and weekend work. The assistant manager supports the department’s daily operations and helps maintain smooth operations when the manager or staff are absent. This is a working-manager role that includes performing tasks needed to keep the division running effectively. On-the-job training and leadership classes are offered.

Requirements

Broad-based knowledge of plant materials.
Ability to diagnose plant problems.
Regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
Flexible availability for day, evening, and weekend work.

Responsibilities

Produce designs for “Plant Your Own,” if applicable.
Understand and apply landscape design techniques and the proper use of plant materials.
Operate and maintain equipment such as tow motors and loaders safely and responsibly.
Assign and prioritize worker duties, and schedule breaks, work hours, and vacations as needed or in the manager’s absence.
Assist in conducting training meetings.
Assist with coordinating equipment maintenance and repair, and employee training regarding equipment.
Assist with regularly scheduled departmental inventories.
Assist with training workers in store policies, departmental procedures, and job duties.
Communicate with buyers regarding merchandising, new product implementation, and appropriate pricing, and promptly follow buyer directions.
Perform tasks necessary to assure the smooth operation of the division.
Use knowledge of current inventories and ordering systems to assist with ordering supplies and merchandise from approved vendors.
Maintain smooth department operations in the absence of staff or the manager.
Communicate performance and training problems to the department manager.
