About The Position

NHC Place at Cool Springs is seeking a nurse manager (RN/LPN) with a passion to serve and the vision to lead. This position will supervise Certified Nurse Aides and licensed nurses on a unit and oversee all patient care in a progressive health and rehabilitation center. Assists the Assistant Director of Nursing and the Director of Nursing by providing leadership to ensure excellence in quality patient care. The Unit Manager supports the mission of NHC, exemplifies The Better Way through leadership and demeanor; represents the center in a positive manner both in the medical community and in the community.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed to practice nursing in the state of Tennessee.
  • Professional experience in the practice of geriatrics, nursing administration, and Skilled Nursing.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills in the areas of nursing administration, nursing practice, rehabilitation and partner relations management.
  • Ability to perform physical and mental requirements of the job.
  • CPR certified

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Certified Nurse Aides and licensed nurses on a unit.
  • Oversee all patient care in a progressive health and rehabilitation center.
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Nursing and the Director of Nursing by providing leadership to ensure excellence in quality patient care.
  • Maintain clinical competency as evidenced by application integrated nursing knowledge and skills, leadership and communication skills.
  • Utilize the nursing process in assessment, planning and implementing care.
  • Exhibit organizational ability related to workflow, prioritizing to meet patient care needs.
  • Practice continuous quality improvement thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Be available to rotate call with the nursing management team.
  • Communicate effectively with the medical/health care community, patients and families.
  • Interpret and implement regulations (state and federal).
  • Organize and implement systems to manage and enhance patient services.
  • Manage through delegation, goal setting, and building respect from all nursing staff through use of positive leadership principles.
  • Plan and direct nursing service in an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Make administrative decisions as required during the DON’s absence.
  • Maintain working knowledge of center’s disaster procedures.
  • Implement federal, state and local regulations pertaining to nursing service.
  • Maintain a system to ensure knowledge of patient status (such as: makes daily rounds of all patients).
  • Monitor to see that treatments and medications are administered as ordered.
  • Participate in conferences with patients and families.
  • Monitor to see that there is accurate and adequate documentation within the medical records.
  • Plan and encourage participation in in-service and continuing education for all levels of nursing personnel (including CNA training program).
  • Coordinate Level of Care meeting on a weekly basis.
  • Review and report findings of level of care meetings to attending physicians.
  • Serve as a member of nursing management team and develop effective working relationship with the Director of Nursing.
  • Develop positive partner relations policies and environment to achieve firm, fair, consistent supervision and a department team.
  • Administer policies and formulate procedures for the nursing department.
  • Support the operation of the nursing department in a cost-effective manner.
  • Be involved in the recruitment, selection, training, evaluation and retention for all nursing staff.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of center’s master staffing plan based on patient’s needs, nursing service goals and standards, department budget and state law.
  • Promote consistent assignment scheduling to meet patient care needs.
  • Formulate, implement and evaluate a department plan for orientation and partner development.
  • Promote and delegate accountability for maintaining and effective performance appraisal system for nursing.
  • Promote and delegate personnel policy compliance with supervisors.
  • Create a work climate that promotes a positive quality of work.
  • Assess supplies and equipment needs for Nursing Department and see that units are adequately stocked and maintained.
  • Act upon recommendations from the management team regarding hiring and firing of nursing personnel; assist with recruiting as needed.
  • Delegate and monitor orientation and initial training for nursing personnel.
  • Cooperate with consultants and implement their recommendations, if determined appropriate to the nursing department.
