About The Position

At Western Home Communities, our Nurse Training Coordinator plays a critical role in shaping the future of our nursing teams. This position is responsible for welcoming, training, and developing new and transitioning nursing staff to ensure they feel confident, supported, and fully prepared to provide exceptional resident care. You’ll be the bridge between education and practice—bringing clinical expertise, strong communication, and a passion for teaching into every orientation, training session, and hands-on coaching moment. From guiding new hires through onboarding to providing one-on-one support and re-training when needed, you’ll directly influence staff success, retention, and resident outcomes. Requirements

  • Active LPN or RN license in Iowa
  • Minimum of 2 years of long-term care experience required
  • Passion for teaching, mentoring, and staff development
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple training schedules
  • CPR certification (BLS) required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (travel between sites required)
  • Ability to flex schedule, including evenings/weekends as needed for training support
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment with changing priorities
  • Strong critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training for new and transitioning nursing staff
  • Deliver hands-on clinical education and 1:1 coaching to support skill development and confidence
  • Ensure staff are trained on proper nursing care, documentation, and facility policies
  • Coordinate and schedule orientation activities in collaboration with leadership and staffing teams
  • Support clinical onboarding and assist in evaluating staff readiness and competency
  • Train staff on infection control, safety practices, and proper use of lift equipment and procedures
  • Ensure accurate documentation practices and train staff on electronic charting systems (PCC)
  • Conduct audits and support compliance with state, federal, and organizational standards
  • Collaborates with Director of Education, education team members and department leaders on staff performance and training needs
  • Maintain orientation records, training documentation, and compliance tracking in Workday or other systems
