CLEVELAND AREA HOSPITAL is an independent, self-managed Critical Access Hospital, half an hour west of Tulsa, Oklahoma. As the only hospital in Pawnee County, we are constantly striving to provide the highest level of care by continuously growing and updating our services and equipment. Our facilities include a Level IV Trauma Center/ER, Skilled Nursing/Swing Bed program, Respiratory Therapy, CT, 3D Mammography, a fully equipped Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, 24/7 Lab, and a Primary Care Clinic. POSITION SUMMARY: Per the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, new graduate nurses may only be employed as Nurse Technicians. He/she can perform all duties of a nursing assistant as well as other technical skills that have been learned in their nursing education programs, and for which competency has been previously demonstrated under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Nurse Technician must provide the list of competencies from their program. He/she is expected to adhere to and abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act. The Nurse Technician will NOT be able to administer medications, blood products, and intravenous fluids, perform assessments, act in a supervisory position, take verbal orders from a health care provider, or develop a written plan of care. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the Nurse Technician at all times and must be physically present in the institution. Requirements

  • Must have completed a degree or certificate program.
  • Must schedule State Boards within 90 days of graduation and pass the test.
  • Must be BLS, PALS, and ACLS certified or within the first six months of employment after passing the NCLEX.
  • Must have good verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions.
  • Must be able to manage stress appropriately.
  • Make decisions under pressure.
  • Handle multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to take direction from the supervising RN.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all policies of the organization, including (but not limited to) job description, certification/licensure requirements, mission statement, HIPAA, confidentiality standard, and patients’ rights.
  • Stay up to date with organization communication and directives.
  • Complies with behavioral competency.
  • Utilize communication skills necessary to interact with the patient, their family, and all co-workers.
  • Utilize time efficiently and ensure quality patient care.
  • Effectively utilize coaching, positive reinforcement, and other methods to enhance team performance.
  • Participates in hourly rounding.
  • Arrive on time for the scheduled shift. Badge in or document time worked according to hospital policy.
  • Dress appropriately for your position. Be professional. Be respectful and compassionate.
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized work area.
  • Actively participate in the shift report
  • Make hourly rounds on patients or more if the patient’s condition warrants. Document your findings appropriately. If a problem is identified, notify the Charge RN immediately. Collaborate closely with the RN, LPN, and CNAs.
  • Implement orders as written or delegated as appropriate within the guidelines outlined by the State Board of Nursing; if unable to complete the order as written, notify the Charge RN.
  • Appropriately collaborate with other health professionals in the management of your patients' care.
  • Continually educate your patients and their families on their diagnosis and plan of care.
  • Comply with EMTALA and HIPAA in all patient encounters. Be knowledgeable of these regulations and serve as a resource for the staff.
  • Before completion of your shift, review all charting and ensure all pertinent information is accurately charted in the medical record. Ensure your signature is on all documentation. Ensure I&O, weights, VS, treatments, dressing changes, and other pertinent patient data are recorded in the appropriate section of the patient’s chart.
  • Follows procedures for charging of items to the patient account.
  • Complete requests for documentation in a timely manner.
  • Complete educational paper programs and other materials provided by CNO/DON in a timely manner.
  • Complete skills competencies annually.
  • Other duties as assigned.
