About The Position

This is a PRN Casual Day position for a Nurse Tech on the 5 North unit, a 38-bed unit specializing in medical, surgical, and chronically ill patients. The unit has expertise in diabetes care (insulin drips) and renal failure (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis). It can accommodate telemetry and oximetry monitoring, with patient/nurse ratios adjusted based on acuity. The unit actively partners with universities to support student nurses through precepting, guidance, and role modeling, aiming to provide high-quality, efficient, effective, and compassionate healthcare to patients and their families. Farmington Hills Hospital, where this unit is located, is recognized by U.S. News and World Report for high performance in various procedures and conditions and is a Magnet-designated hospital for nursing excellence. Serving the community since 1965, it is a Level II trauma center and the base teaching hospital for Michigan State University.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing.
  • May be enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program.
  • ADN graduates will be required to sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire/placement in a graduate nurse position.
  • Required RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure (or) Graduate Nurse from accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam.
  • Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire and may be requested for review periodically.
  • High School Diploma
  • Evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations – theory and clinical.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Or ARC American Red Cross, Upon Hire required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients under the supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures.
  • Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients.
  • Assists with ambulating, moving, and turning patients.
  • Assists patients with bedpans or urinary devices.
  • Makes patient beds and cares for personal property.
  • Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches, sitz baths, or pericare.
