About The Position
The Nurse Tech provides inpatient bedside care primarily to the General Medical Patient Population, which includes patients with a wide variety of diagnoses. The role is a team member in delivering quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. The Nurse Tech performs basic skills according to department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. CNA certification is not required because extensive orientation and on-the-job training are provided. Orientation includes 3–4 required, pre-scheduled weekday classroom days with Nurse Educators, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The position is based at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, in the Med Surg Care Unit 9C. It is full-time, with 36 scheduled hours per week, a night shift from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., flexible workdays, and every other weekend.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS), required within 90 days.
Responsibilities
- Take vital signs and check blood sugars.
- Provide bed baths and assist patients with ambulation.
- Provide wound care and catheterization.
- Act as a safety attendant for patients.
- Deliver quality patient care as a team member under the supervision of an RN or Provider.
- Perform basic skills according to department guidelines.
- Communicate observations to members of the health care team.
