About The Position

The Prince Surgical Critical Care Unit is a 22-bed intensive care unit located in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital. This surgical ICU specializes in the care of critically ill trauma and surgical patients, including geriatric rib fractures, traumatic brain injury, multi-trauma, and adult burn patients. The unit also cares for patients undergoing trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, surgical oncology, and vascular surgery. Additionally, staff provide care to medical and neuro critically ill patients. The work is challenging and fulfilling, with Nurse Technicians supporting nurses and ancillary staff in providing care to patients requiring ventilator support, life-sustaining medications, and assisting with bedside procedures. This is a direct patient care role involving vital signs, blood sugar checks, wound care, bathing, toileting, ambulation, catheterization, safety attendant duties, and potentially postmortem care. The unit is fast-paced and relies on teamwork and an interdisciplinary approach.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days

• Support nurses and other ancillary staff in providing competent care of patients requiring life-sustaining titratable medications including cardiac and sedation medications
• Assist with bedside procedures including preparation of the sterile field for tracheostomies, central line placement, and burn dressing changes
