About The Position

The Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) is a 36-bed ICU specializing in highly acute post-cardiac and advanced heart failure patients. Nurse techs are able to care for a wide range of patients and devices including heart/lung transplant patients, post-operative open-heart patients, and more. This unit is at the forefront of cardiac medicine, engaging in cutting-edge innovation and research. Top preferred skills include experience in roles that require constant use of critical thinking skills, resilience, a very high level of self-motivation and drive, flexibility with availability, commitment to excellence, and receptiveness to constructive feedback.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Within 90 Days

• 1 year of inpatient care experience is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

• Assisting with complex ICU procedures such as placing ART lines, taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization, charting and acting as a safety attendant for patients.
• Floating to other units with a need for a 1:1 patient safety sitter for the entirety of the shift.
• Providing input in the development of an individualized plan of care.
• Ensuring that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
• Articulating the nursing technician role to the patient, family and health team members.
• Providing support to facilitate safe, quality patient care in a cost-effective manner.
• Cleaning patient’s environment / work area / equipment and helping to troubleshoot and report any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department / unit personnel.
• Demonstrating a high standard of moral and ethical behavior.
• Advocating for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organization data.
