About The Position

This position is in the Pediatric Emergency Department at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, a Level I trauma center. The unit provides the highest level of children’s medical care, treating both minor illnesses and injuries, as well as severe injuries with a dedicated pediatric trauma care team. It is the only pediatric emergency department in West Michigan, staffed by experts in pediatric emergency medicine, trauma, and burn care, available 24 hours a day.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent Required
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days

Nice To Haves

• Orientation requires 4 classroom days (Monday-Thursday 8a-4:30p) and 6-8 weeks of floor orientation full time with the first 4 weeks of that being on day shift in which you would need to have at least 2 weekdays available.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.
• Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.
• Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
• Takes vitals, checks blood sugars, performs bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acts as a safety attendant for patients.
• Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
