The 6 and 8 Center at Butterworth Hospital is a secure unit with 20 private beds specializing in Women and Infant Services, specifically postpartum care of Mother Baby couplets, after labor and delivery. The average length of postpartum patient stay is 2-3 days. The excellent care provided by the 126 members of our Nursing and Support Team within Postpartum, provides team members and patients with memories that last a lifetime. We're here to guide parents through this transitional period, offering assistance, education, and support every step of the way. We even have Lactation Peer Counselors and Consultants available during your inpatient stay and a lactation warmline for continued assistance. It is the flagship hospital for Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals. This role requires strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills. Our Nurse Techs get surgical patients up and cleaned up, vital signs, they do bundle care of newborns which involves certain mandated State testing, lab draws of newborns, weights, hearing screens, assists with circumcisions and frenotomies, feeding, diaper changing, EKGs for mom or baby, room set up, clearing cribs. If you are working on the floor you cover tasks on both 6&8 Center typically. You set rooms up for admissions, get vitals on Mag patients, take moms or babies to procedures/tests, clean cribs, baby weights. If you are working in the Nursery for the shift, you are in the nursery for circumcisions, frenotomies, 24 hour bundles, and there if any babies are needing to spend time in the nursery. Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, support during circumcisions, some lab pokes on newborns, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required reporting and documentation on newborns is performed in a highly accurate and timely manner.
