This 48-bed unit is dedicated to ortho/neuro/trauma. Some specific diagnoses are total knee, total hip, spinal fusions, and fractured hips. We are Stroke and Trauma certified and complete additional education every three months to better care for this population of patients. Our multidisciplinary team includes RN’s, nurse techs, nursing assistants, unit secretaries, PT/OT, orthopedic care coordinator and case managers. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:4-6 and the nurse assistant ratio is 1:8-10. This hospital has grown in size and capabilities over the decades to become a Level II trauma center, serving the community since 1965. It also serves as the base teaching hospital for Michigan State University. Under supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches and sitz baths or pericare.
