About The Position

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Blodgett Hospital is a 22-bed adult critical care unit that cares for both medical and some surgical ICU patients. As a team member on this unit, you will encounter a wide variety of ages and diagnoses, participating in diverse ICU-level care. Common diagnoses include stroke, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and respiratory failure. You will gain experience with ventilators, sedation, paralytics, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), post-cardiac arrest cooling, and ICU thrombolytic therapy. The experience gained on this unit provides a strong foundation for working in an ICU setting. The team consists of nurses with varied experience levels on both day and night shifts, who are eager to teach. Collaboration occurs with ICU providers, respiratory care, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social work to ensure comprehensive patient care. This unit offers a supportive environment for new staff and welcomes you to the team.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days

Nice To Haves

• 1 year of direct patient care experience STRONGLY preferred.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.
• Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team.
• Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
• Takes vitals.
• Checks blood sugars.
• Provides bed bathing.
• Assists with ambulation.
• Performs wound care.
• Performs catheterization.
• Acts as a safety attendant for patients.
• Ensures that the required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
