About The Position

This position is dispatched from the Surveyor’s home, is usually only M-F, and has no shift, on-call, direct care, or holiday work. We are looking for a professional who thrives in a team environment, yet works well independently, to support the Department of Health and Human Service’s mission to promote health and safety for all Maine people. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is dedicated to promoting health, safety, resilience, and opportunity for Maine people. The Department provides health and social services to approximately a third of the State's population, including children, families, older Mainers, and individuals with disabilities, mental illness, and substance use disorders. The Department also promotes public health, operates two state psychiatric hospitals, and provides oversight to health care providers. The mission of the Division of Licensing and Certification is to ensure Maine’s citizens receive quality and effective health care and social services by developing and applying regulatory standards that help people have safe and appropriate outcomes. Requirements

  • Registered Nurse
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of nursing, and/or in the delivery of health care services
  • Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine, as issued by the State Board of Nursing

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of surveyors as you conduct inspections and investigate complaint allegations in acute-level providers such as hospitals, hospices, ambulatory surgical centers, and others
  • Interview complainants and witnesses to obtain information regarding complaint allegations
  • Perform record reviews and observations in facilities
  • Write reports known as “Statements of Deficiencies,” which outline the rules/regulations that the facility failed to follow
  • Assist your team members to ensure Statements of Deficiencies comply with the requirements set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”)
  • Participate in training, including mandatory online training required by CMS
  • Ensure that facilities comply with both federal and State licensing requirements
