About The Position

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a Health Services Consultant II to join their team. This position is responsible for leading a team of surveyors in conducting inspections and investigating complaint allegations in acute-level healthcare providers such as hospitals, hospices, and ambulatory surgical centers. The role involves interviewing complainants, reviewing records, performing observations, and writing detailed reports on facility compliance with federal and state regulations. While this position is a Team Lead role, it does not involve annual performance reviews or other direct supervisory duties. The position requires statewide travel and occasional overnight stays, with the possibility of early morning, night, or weekend survey work. The DHHS aims to promote health and safety for all Maine people, and this role is crucial in ensuring quality and effective healthcare services through regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of nursing, and/or in the delivery of health care services
  • Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine, as issued by the State Board of Nursing

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of surveyors as you conduct inspections and investigate complaint allegations in acute-level providers such as hospitals, hospices, ambulatory surgical centers, and others
  • Interview complainants and witnesses to obtain information regarding complaint allegations
  • Perform record reviews and observations in facilities
  • Write reports known as “Statements of Deficiencies,” which outline the rules/regulations that the facility failed to follow
  • Assist your team members to ensure Statements of Deficiencies comply with the requirements set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”)
  • Participate in training, including mandatory online training required by CMS
  • Ensure that facilities comply with both federal and State licensing requirements
