Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience.
  • Licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, this position supervises nursing personnel within assigned area to include planning, organizing, implementing evaluating, and delegating nursing care.
  • Ensures daily nursing care, training, activities, and treatment are provided to the people who live at OIDD Coastal Regional Center, in accordance with all licensing and certification requirements, the South Carolina Nursing Practice Act, and South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD), Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (OIDD) policies and procedures.
  • Supervises and mentors nursing staff on assigned shift so that the mission, goals, philosophy, and functions of the nursing department are supported and can be achieved.
  • Provides direct oversight to Registered Nurses (RN) on assigned shifts who in turn, provides direct oversight to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) in their assigned area.
  • Evaluates subordinate nursing staff and serves as a reviewer for evaluation.
  • In consultation with Human Resources, follows proper procedures for conducting disciplinary action as needed.
  • Ensures nursing schedule and coverage is maintained at all times to ensure target staffing levels are met.
  • Conducts interviews and makes recommendations for nursing vacancies.
  • Ensures all time and/or leave is approved timely for subordinate nursing staff.
  • As a member of the nursing administration team, provides active leadership in ensuring compliance with Federal and State regulations, Agency and Office policies and procedures, and accepted nursing standards of care and practice.
  • Stays abreast of new nursing trends and/or research with possible application towards improving the health care of individuals.
  • Provides for and participates in educational enrichment programs so that personnel are up to date with new concepts and approaches in the delivery of services to individuals.
  • Performs and participates in activities used to build morale as otherwise assigned by Director of Nursing.
