About The Position

The Nurse Supervisor (RN) Surgical Trauma PCU Burn is responsible for providing bedside leadership and clinical expertise to improve the quality of patient care. This role assists the manager/director with human resource management, including evaluations, coaching, mentoring, recruitment, retention, education, and orientation. The supervisor also works with management to control costs, manage the department budget, and productivity. They foster an environment that promotes patient and family-centered care through various initiatives like hourly rounding, bedside shift report, and updated care boards. Collaboration with physicians and the healthcare team is crucial for safe, individualized care and enhancing the patient experience. This position assimilates leadership responsibilities on the unit and throughout the entity/system, committing to autonomous maintenance and continuous improvement of competence, serving as a role model to other healthcare team members. The unit, Justin 5, is a 35-bed Surgical Trauma Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Burn Unit, providing higher-acuity surgical trauma and burn care. Staff are expected to work across both care areas.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited Nursing program or Diploma of Nursing
  • 2+ years experience as a clinical nurse with previous experience as a charge nurse or similar leadership role (i.e. Charge nurse, committee chair, preceptor) required
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS – expiration date greater than 3 months preferred, within 90 days of hire required
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training within 90 days of hire required

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • 2+ years experience in the acute care PCU and/or Burn setting strongly preferred
