This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 2962 As the Nurse Supervisor/Nurse Mnager II, working under general supervision, plan for and provide nursing care for adult patients with responsibility for assessment of nursing needs and the delegation of selected assignment for care to licensed and non-licensed nursing personnel. Apply a higher level of knowledge in age-specific criteria and interventions appropriate for effective and therapeutic interaction with adult psychiatric patients across lifespan including those who have diverse backgrounds, disabilities, and co-occurring disorders.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing or a three (3) year diploma in nursing or an associate's degree in nursing and at least two (2) years of clinical nursing experience in either psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing or medical/surgical nursing as appropriate to the mission of the employing facility.
  • Must be licensed as an RN by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds (may be required to lift more during emergencies).
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb a ladder.
  • Be able to perform MANDT and emergency care in cardiac and/or respiratory arrest and other emergencies.
  • Demonstrate safe and effective use of patient care equipment.
  • May be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids.

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and continuity of care in patient areas and monitors for regulatory compliance in patient care and the environment.
  • Make frequent clinical rounds each shift on staff and patients.
  • Provide direct care as required.
  • Assess patients to evaluate the quality of nursing care being provided.
  • Ensure that nursing care is implemented as directed and treatment administered in accordance with HPH and Nursing Policies and Procedures and Nursing Standards of Care and Performance.
  • Participate in Clinical Treatment Team meetings as required.
  • Document in patient care record specific to care provided.
  • Support charge nurse and communicates with on-call physicians after hours.
  • Maintain staffing rosters and the assignment of staff on a shift-by-shift basis to ensure sufficient distribution and utilization of nursing staff related to patient care needs.
  • Approve, monitor and record changes in schedules, overtime, flex hours in real time to achieve optimum staffing to meet patient needs.
  • Investigates and provide appropriate follow up regarding issues related to patient care to include Medication, Variances, Unusual Occurrences and Pyxis Discrepancies as they occur during each shift.
  • Complete daily nursing and facility reports regarding patient care and distributes accordingly.
  • Support and actively participate in Nursing Performance Improvement activities, auditing for regulatory compliance and Nursing Department meetings as required and assigned.
  • Review and schedule transportation arrangements for discharges, trips and appointments as needed.
  • Support and abide by the Employee Performance Management System (EPMS)and Standards of Disciplinary Actions.
  • Maintain clinical competency by mastering qualifying required mandatory (e.g. MANDT, CPR and S/R Face to Face training) and twenty (2) hours non-mandatory inservice/training annually.
