About The Position

The Supervisor provides operational leadership and shares 24-hour, 7-day accountability with the Nurse Manager for safe, high-quality, person-centered care delivery within the Fergus Falls Emergency Department. This is an RN working supervisor role and may include assigned direct-care shifts, shift coverage, or other ED assignments as needed to meet department and patient care needs. This role ensures daily operational readiness through safe staffing, effective communication, escalation, and consistent application of emergency care standards. Responsible for day-to-day operations, staff support, patient flow, and execution of care delivery while supporting quality, safety, regulatory readiness, trauma and stroke program accountabilities, and performance outcomes.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required
  • Clinical experience in emergency care required
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills required
  • Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NRP; must be current upon hire or obtained within the required timeframe after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provides visible, real time leadership for Emergency Department operations, sharing 24/7 accountability for staffing, workflow consistency, and daily readiness for trauma and stroke care.
  • Ensures effective patient flow and collaborates with providers, EMS, inpatient units, and ancillary teams to support timely, coordinated care, including trauma and stroke stabilization, escalation, transfers, and documentation.
  • Promotes a non punitive safety culture, ensures adherence to regulatory standards and documentation requirements, maintains survey readiness, participates in safety events and huddles, and responds to patient concerns.
  • Participates in hiring and performance management; monitors staffing needs, and functions as an RN working supervisor providing direct care as needed.
  • Supports productivity, efficient resource utilization, and responsible stewardship in daily operations.
  • Maintains effective communication across teams, escalates concerns appropriately, and participates in continuous improvement efforts by monitoring metrics and taking ownership of daily operational outcomes.
