About The Position

This position provides day-to-day/frontline supervision, coordination, and assignment functions for patient care staff and patient treatment. The primary duties include supervising nursing staff, coordinating patient services with physicians and staff, facilitating educational opportunities and quality improvement activities, assigning/coordinating staff activities, providing direct patient care as needed, promoting/maintaining good public relations with patients and families, and monitoring supplies/equipment. The role also involves acting as a liaison between departments and providing counsel to patients/families regarding medications and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related nursing experience.
  • Current LPN or RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with the Compact Act.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Responsibilities

  • Supervises nursing staff, including hiring/firing responsibilities, performance appraisals for subordinates, and initiating disciplinary action.
  • Coordinates patient services with physicians and staff to provide quality care in an effective manner, conducting rounds to ensure quality of patient care delivery.
  • Facilitates educational opportunities and quality improvement activities for staff to ensure compliance with medical school and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assigns/coordinates activities and duties of staff, orienting new staff, and advising administration of conditions and performance issues.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed, including development of patient care plans, administering medication, vitals, phlebotomy, monitoring IV therapies, and maintaining records in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Promotes/maintains good public relations with patients and families, acting as liaison between other departments.
  • Provides appropriate counsel to patients/families explaining medications, procedures, and teaches care to ensure continuity of care and promote health care maintenance.
  • Monitors supplies/equipment ordering/repairing as required.
